Keeva Moselle

Growing up Keeva Moselle made all of her Halloween costumes from age nine on, repurposing items from around the house. Keeva learned to work with her hands and a myriad of materials and techniques to create wearable art. These skills eventually translated into fashion design and garment construction. Today Keeva is a Portland native artist creating large scale interactive art installations, immersive beauty experiences, costumes, and multimedia art. All of her endeavors primarily use post-consumer waste & salvage materials. Keeva is a graduate of Oregon State University Graduate School, where she studied socio-political ethics. Keeva is an environmentalist and a Black Feminist thinker and author; her art reflects that same powerfully dynamic voice. In 2011, Keeva created an original character “The Queen of Unicorns”, as a public persona to inspire imaginative play and give young girls, especially those of color, representation in the cosplay and festival community. In 2019 she debuted her “Unicorn Palace” at 2nd Star Festival and Faerieworlds; two well established, Oregon based, music and arts festivals. She also presented at Rose City Comic Con in 2019 as part of a panel discussion on Black representation in pop-culture and film. Keeva is one of the 2021 recipients of the Career Opportunity Grant sponsored by the Oregon Arts Commission, The Ford Foundation, and Business Oregon. Keeva was also selected as one of the Regional arts and culture councils (RACC ) 2021 Make Learn Build Grant. Her most recent body of work “Promises”, debut at the Chehalem Cultural Center as part of the “black Matter” show, curated by Tammy Jo. Wilson of Art in Oregon. Keeva Showcased many of her creative talents using refurbished salvage materials. The installation tied together 3 of her costume garments and a series of artifacts, including headdress, with a powerful messages of hope, joy, and the transcendental beauty and healing power of imaginative play.
