Remembering Andrea Aranow
It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of the pioneering fashion designer, textile collector, and entrepreneur Andrea Aranow. Andrea lived a rich life, influencing and inspiring us with her intellect, curiosity, creativity, and passion for, fashion, textiles, design, and travel. The knowledge she shared through her textile collection, exhibits, showcases, and lectures, informed and enriched each year's festival.
We continue to honor Andrea's legacy, spirit, and passion for textiles globally as we expand to promote exchanges between textile communities throughout the world during Portland TextileX Month. Those with stories, pictures, or remembrances of Andrea are encouraged to contribute them to be included in a virtual exhibit opening on October 26th as Part of PTXM.

This Is / Is This a City
We’re delighted to support the creation of This Is / Is This a City, a festival identity project by fiber artist and lifelong knitter Amy Wike. This community textile project collects descriptions of Portland (the good, the bad, and the ugly) from current residents, newspaper headlines, travel sites, and archival documents to explore how we form an identity for a city and how we attempt to articulate it. Descriptions gathered are translated into Morse code and knit together, with each contribution attaining its own unique color. This multifaceted "voice" of a city will evolve as community members contribute.
If you are a current Portland resident interested in contributing to Wike's community textile with your own description of Portland, This Is / Is This a City will be on view at Gallery Go Go between October 24th and 31st. Wike will be hosting an artist talk and knitting workshop at the Portland TexileX Month Space IN Gallery Go Go on October 23rd.

Help Support Future PTXM Programming
In just over 3 years, Portland TextileX Month (PTXM) has turned from an ambitious idea into an engaged community movement. This transformation highlights the power of our mission to foster collaboration, cross-pollination, cultural dialogue, and exchange among the Portland textile community and beyond.
This year we’ve organized the PTXM festival with over 40 events and directly sponsored over 20 programs including exhibits, workshops, artist talks, community projects, podcasts, and more—representing a diversity of textile interests and practices. This year’s PTXM New Traditions Festival has galvanized makers, businesses, teachers, students, institutions, and organizations to gather around shared interests and knowledge-sharing. PTXM would not have been possible without the dedication of paid administrative contributors, paid interns, and the receptiveness of the textile community.
We hope to continue building PTXM and TextileX website as sustainable resources that serve the textile community for years to come, and that’s where you come in.
If you feel a connection to the PTXM mission and what we can accomplish together, please consider directly supporting our future programming. As a direct contributor, your funds will go toward operational expenses such as exhibit space, seed funding for next year’s community projects, and paying our talented administrative contributors. We appreciate any contribution you can make and your continued support.
