Tufting Workshop with Felicia Murray at elle gallery + shop

October 26, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm PDT

Learn all the needed skills for machine tufting and leave the class with a finished 15″ x 15″ tufted rug!

When I was in college taking classes for fiber arts, I fell in love with each technique that I learned. It was hard for me to choose one technique to focus on. I soon began creating tactile pieces that included several different fiber art techniques all in one piece, and a spark of inspiration took over me as I let my hands discover new materials and processes. I found that learning through the tactile creation process gave me immense healing and meditation.

One of my main goals now as an artist is passing down my knowledge to others so that more people can experience the healing that comes with fiber art. By telling my origin story of how I learned my craft, I can help others find inspiration and joy through creating which will create a chain reaction, spreading art throughout different communities. After finding elle gallery and shop, I found that they had a similar story and focus on wellness practiced through art. By teaching a tufting workshop at elle, I will bring art to the community of Portland and beyond.

During this 5 hour workshop, you will learn all the needed skills for machine tufting and leave the class with a finished 15″ x 15″ tufted rug! All materials and tools are provided! Send us your sketch at least 3 days before the class and we will have your design ready to tuft!

Support Our Community Programs

In just over 4 years, Portland TextileX Month (PTXM) has turned from an ambitious idea into an engaged community movement. This transformation highlights the power of our mission to foster collaboration, cross-pollination, cultural dialogue, and intergenerational exchange among the Portland textile community and beyond.

This year we’ve organized the PTXM festival with over 40 events and directly sponsored a multitude of FREE programs including exhibits, workshops, artist talks, community events, and more—representing a diverse range of textile interests and practices. This year’s PTXM Regeneration Festival has brought together makers, businesses, teachers, students, institutions, and organizations to gather around shared interests and knowledge-sharing. PTXM would not have been possible without the dedication of event organizers, paid contributors, paid interns, amazing volunteers and the receptiveness of the textile community.

We hope to continue building PTXM and TextileX website as sustainable resources that serve the textile community for years to come, and that’s where you come in.

If you feel a connection to the PTXM mission and what we can accomplish together, please consider making a direct contribution programming. As a direct contributor, your funds will go directly toward programming, lean administrative expenses, and providing paid internships. We appreciate any contribution you can make and your continued support.
