The Roving Animation Sewing Circle
October 5-October 31
Take part in the creation of an evolving fabric animation throughout PTXM!
Throughout Portland TextileX Month, collaborative fabric animator Charlie Wilcox will be rolling out a one of a kind “Fabric Film Strip,” a novel neo-Luddite animation technology that allows participants to add to a continually evolving animation through embroidering, painting, dyeing, quilting, cutting, mangling, and otherwise creatively augmenting a 30 foot loop of textile film, which Charlie will then turn into a stop-motion animation. Keep an eye out for the fabric film strip throughout the festival and follow along on instagram at @charliecwilcox to see where it will be and how the animation is developing! In participating, you can learn about the basics of the niche practice of fabric animation, take part in some skill sharing in both fabric and animation arts, and meet and collaborate with other amazing makers, all while creating a shared vision for the future of decentralized creative expression!
