Stitching Stories: a Community Quilt Workshop
October 13, 2024 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm PDT
Bring a textile and help us create a quilt that shows connections to both our communities and our pasts.

Stitching Stories draws inspiration from the practice of communal quilt-making, whether that be a friendship quilt or more impactful artworks like the AIDS Quilt. This project is not only about creating a quilt, but also embodies the concept of regeneration: we are taking scraps and transforming them into something new and useful. We invite participants to bring meaningful textiles for our collective quilt, with each fabric piece symbolizing a unique member of our community, thereby creating a tangible representation of our strong social fabric.
Our series will unfold over two sessions:
In the first workshop, we will sew together the quilt top. Participants will have the opportunity to embellish their textile contributions with embroidery or other personal touches to deepen their significance, and volunteers will assist participants in integrating these pieces into the quilt either on a sewing machine or by hand. In the following week’s quilting bee workshop, we will collaboratively hand-tie the quilt.
Our ultimate goal is to showcase this communal creation both within our studio and somewhere prominent in our community.
