An exhibit inspired by stories that relate back to Cuban culture by Dianee Da’ Lama
Inspired by stories that relate back to Cuban culture, Dianee Da’ Lama visually expresses Cuban narratives within two quilt installations to be featured in this exhibition in conjunction with her 2021 Textile Hive residency.
Cuban-American artist Dianee Da’ Lama, explores culture, memory, and family through her experience as a young Hispanic woman, translating them through the use of textiles. By reclaiming fiber arts with its connotation of “women’s craft”, Da’ Lama is able to express the frustration of living within the machismo culture perpetuated in Latin American society. Da’ Lama explores storytelling in her work by combining the surreal aspects of Caribbean culture with childhood stories of ancestors passed down from generation to generation.
The viewing hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday.
