Pattern Odyssey: Crafting Patterns from Inspiration

October 22, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm PDT

This workshop invites you to explore the world of patterns with a fresh perspective.

This dynamic workshop is designed for both seasoned creatives and those new to design, where we embark on a journey of rediscovery through the art of pattern-making. Whether you’re seeking to reignite your creative spark or curious about turning visual inspiration into design, this workshop invites you to explore the world of patterns with a fresh perspective.

In this hands-on experience, participants will be grouped and presented with reference images from “unknown” locations, uncovering the hidden stories, cultural nuances, and striking visuals that can spark unique graphic patterns. Through a series of collaborative activities and group discussions, you’ll learn how to tap into the visual world around you, transforming inspiration into tangible design.

Together, we will explore the cultural implications behind the visuals, analyzing how patterns can carry meaning and tell a story. Through community interaction and collective brainstorming, the workshop aims to break creative blocks, foster engagement, and nurture the collaborative spirit. You’ll connect with fellow participants, share insights, and create alongside each other, pushing your creative boundaries.

Whether you’re an artist, designer, or simply curious, Pattern Odyssey will help you reconnect with your innate ability to interpret and create. Join us, and discover how inspiration can spark the creation of beautiful, meaningful patterns.

Support Our Community Programs

In just over 4 years, Portland TextileX Month (PTXM) has turned from an ambitious idea into an engaged community movement. This transformation highlights the power of our mission to foster collaboration, cross-pollination, cultural dialogue, and intergenerational exchange among the Portland textile community and beyond.

This year we’ve organized the PTXM festival with over 40 events and directly sponsored a multitude of FREE programs including exhibits, workshops, artist talks, community events, and more—representing a diverse range of textile interests and practices. This year’s PTXM Regeneration Festival has brought together makers, businesses, teachers, students, institutions, and organizations to gather around shared interests and knowledge-sharing. PTXM would not have been possible without the dedication of event organizers, paid contributors, paid interns, amazing volunteers and the receptiveness of the textile community.

We hope to continue building PTXM and TextileX website as sustainable resources that serve the textile community for years to come, and that’s where you come in.

If you feel a connection to the PTXM mission and what we can accomplish together, please consider making a direct contribution programming. As a direct contributor, your funds will go directly toward programming, lean administrative expenses, and providing paid internships. We appreciate any contribution you can make and your continued support.
