Moon in Pisces: Autumn Stitch Meditation
October 16, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm PDT
The moon in Pisces attunes us to our creative, spiritual selves — put needle and thread to cloth to meditate on the changing seasons.

The waxing gibbous moon on October 16th is just a few days away from reaching fullness. October is a time of harvest, a time for reflecting on the bounty of the season and preparing for the change that will come soon with colder days and longer nights. The moon in Pisces attunes us to our creative and spiritual selves and brings special sensitivity to our surroundings. What better time to put needle and thread to cloth and apply the simplest of stitch techniques as a meditation on the changing of the seasons? Join textile artist Carolyn Hazel Drake for a day of stitch experiments to create a small sampler in autumn colors. You’ll have a wide range of natural materials to choose from, and Carolyn will demonstrate how simple techniques such as couching, needle weaving, and whipstitch applique can be varied and adapted to result in personal mark-making. Throughout, we’ll drink tea, share in simple breathing exercises to stay grounded, and read a few passages on creativity and the changing of the seasons by women writers including Maya Angelou and Mary Oliver. All materials provided — but bring your favorite notions if you like.
Tickets are $125. One seat on scholarship will be reserved (via simple email application to carolynhazeldrake at gmail dot com) for a BIPOC participant.
