October 14-October 31
Installation featuring Victoria Wanjuhi’s “Knit Denim”.
As a designer, we create a “simple” sketch that multiplies to thousands of garments. Every year millions of these sketches become billions of garments that result in trillions garment waste. My challenge as an artist-cum-designer is finding ways to reimagine conventional ways of making and repurposing, cutting down on waste. There is a dying need for quality and well-thought-out design that reflects the present and the future. Reevaluating the value of materials creates the opportunity to divert waste away from landfill. This project is another example of how one can develop textiles while being conscious of the materials used.
