Interlace: A Community Weaving Project
October 16-October 31
With many pieces by many hands, Gather:Make:Shelter invites the public to join in creating a communal woven masterpiece.
For Portland Textile Month we are launching the Interlace Community Weaving Project as a collaboration between the Gather:Make:Shelter Academy, C(3)PO, and the greater Portland community.
You’re invited to join in! All skill levels welcome!
Submit your piece by October 31 and your artwork will be woven into a large community tapestry.
At the end of the month, everyone’s weavings will be joined together to form one large community tapestry, connecting the work and wishes of all participants to each other.
The public is invited to join in by weaving 5” squares. First time weavers and weaving masters, professional artists and “I’m not good at art” people, Oregon residents and friends from afar; everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate!

Within three C(3)PO shelter-in-place villages, Gather:Make:Shelter has begun hosting weaving workshops to teach residents how to weave and provide a place to relax and come together. Residents of C(3)PO and members of the Gather:Make:Shelter Academy are weaving 10” squares and are compensated for their contributions to the project.
This PTM 2020 Distributed Community Project has been been awarded a project stipend for community impact and excellence made possible in part by a grant from the Multnomah County Cultural Coalition.
