Gathering Threads: Open Studio with Liz Borowski & Maude May

October 5 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm PDT

Behind the scenes studio visit and open workshop with Maude May and Liz Borowski.

Celebrate Portland TextileX Month with an open studio weekend event with textile artists Maude May and Liz Borowski. Hosted in the studio of Liz Borowski, Maude and Liz will share their artwork, process and enthusiasm for textile art.

Visitors will have the opportunity to create a small unique artwork; please join us as we gather around the table stitching, sharing stories and creating community.

Maude May’s stitched textile collages utilize images of the places she’s visited, the people she’s encountered and the experiences remembered. She is always taking photographs. These photos, inkjet printed onto fabric, when combined with other materials, elevate her daily practice into singular works of art.

Liz Borowski embellishes her watercolor paintings with needlework. Her current body of work is a series of figurative paintings with botanical stitching overlay. The process of stitching onto her paintings feels like a gesture of love and mending. By weaving together figures with the natural world, Liz hopes to create ties to nature that speak to a more authentic and true narrative.

Both artists will have small works of art for sale, and aspire to expand their TextileX Month open studio event in subsequent years to include more artists who incorporate textiles in their artwork.

Support Our Community Programs

In just over 4 years, Portland TextileX Month (PTXM) has turned from an ambitious idea into an engaged community movement. This transformation highlights the power of our mission to foster collaboration, cross-pollination, cultural dialogue, and intergenerational exchange among the Portland textile community and beyond.

This year we’ve organized the PTXM festival with over 40 events and directly sponsored a multitude of FREE programs including exhibits, workshops, artist talks, community events, and more—representing a diverse range of textile interests and practices. This year’s PTXM Regeneration Festival has brought together makers, businesses, teachers, students, institutions, and organizations to gather around shared interests and knowledge-sharing. PTXM would not have been possible without the dedication of event organizers, paid contributors, paid interns, amazing volunteers and the receptiveness of the textile community.

We hope to continue building PTXM and TextileX website as sustainable resources that serve the textile community for years to come, and that’s where you come in.

If you feel a connection to the PTXM mission and what we can accomplish together, please consider making a direct contribution programming. As a direct contributor, your funds will go directly toward programming, lean administrative expenses, and providing paid internships. We appreciate any contribution you can make and your continued support.
