An exhibit showcasing folk art and textiles of Greece from the 17th century to present day.

This exhibit showcases the folk art and textile legacy of Greece from the 17th century to the present day. The display includes examples of embroidery and weaving, as well as clothing and tapestries, many of which are a part of HACCM’s permanent collection and several which have been loaned by members of Portland’s Hellenic community. Follow the thread as it weaves a story of geography, history, and of course, the individuals who made, wore, or owned the pieces on display.
Visitors to the exhibit can expect to see exquisite examples of Greek textiles and learn more about the history of modern Greece that is often overlooked. Textiles have long played an important role in Greece and in the Greek diaspora, and are an illustrative example of the diversity within Greek culture. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the permanent collection on display at HACCM, which includes textile tools, traditional dress, and a map of Greece that highlights the various regional styles of dress throughout the country.
The exhibition will be on display at HACCM through the end of 2025, and visitors are welcome to visit during our regular hours (Tuesday-Friday 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.) or by calling/emailing the museum to schedule an appointment. Admission to the museum and special exhibit are free, and donations are welcome.
