October 3, 2024 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm PDT

Join curator Bryan Miller for a unique guided tour of Textile Hive’s Dakota Transit: Sonic Couture by Andrea Aranow exhibit.

Join curator Bryan Miller for a unique guided tour of Textile Hive’s Dakota Transit: Sonic Couture by Andrea Aranow exhibit. For the first time in over 50 years, original garments from the collection will be on view to the public within an immersive exhibit highlighting Aranow’s creative and playful designs. The tour will offer attendees an exclusive look at archival materials, including never-before-seen photos, sketches, and other documents to give the visitor a look behind the curtain of Aranow’s unique process.

Attendees will get an exclusive experience of Textile Hive’s first exhibit with access to the curator to get information on both the material of the exhibit as well as its design. Bryan will be presenting background information on the material of the exhibit and will also show archival materials which will provide even more context and richness to the materials on display.

Design enthusiasts can expose themselves to the unique and creative designs of Andrea Aranow. Fashion as an artistic discipline can be a great font of inspiration for other artists and the exhibit seeks to serve an educational and inspirational purpose, and design professionals can take time after the tour to meet and explore the exhibit together, allowing for spontaneous opportunities for networking and collaboration. The exhibit is located at the spacious Origins and Legacies Gallery in Portland’s Pearl District, a thriving community of art galleries.

Bryan Miller is an archivist based in Portland, Oregon. He studied English and History at Lewis and Clark College where he worked at Watzek Library, and has since worked at the Portland Art Museum and the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. Currently working toward his MLIS at Indiana University, his curatorial practice has been informed by a deep personal attachment to material culture and historical research.

Support Our Community Programs

In just over 4 years, Portland TextileX Month (PTXM) has turned from an ambitious idea into an engaged community movement. This transformation highlights the power of our mission to foster collaboration, cross-pollination, cultural dialogue, and intergenerational exchange among the Portland textile community and beyond.

This year we’ve organized the PTXM festival with over 40 events and directly sponsored a multitude of FREE programs including exhibits, workshops, artist talks, community events, and more—representing a diverse range of textile interests and practices. This year’s PTXM Regeneration Festival has brought together makers, businesses, teachers, students, institutions, and organizations to gather around shared interests and knowledge-sharing. PTXM would not have been possible without the dedication of event organizers, paid contributors, paid interns, amazing volunteers and the receptiveness of the textile community.

We hope to continue building PTXM and TextileX website as sustainable resources that serve the textile community for years to come, and that’s where you come in.

If you feel a connection to the PTXM mission and what we can accomplish together, please consider making a direct contribution programming. As a direct contributor, your funds will go directly toward programming, lean administrative expenses, and providing paid internships. We appreciate any contribution you can make and your continued support.
