Constructing Connection
October 6-October 20
Slow stitching, fastening, storytelling and community building through construction of a textile installation.

This will be a continuation and expansion of a group-produced textile installation which began during Portland TextileX Month last year. Beginning with a base made from vintage lace to which participants will add lights, ephemera, textiles, and stories, participants will sew, glue, and otherwise adhere their artifacts to the background creating a wall (or walls) of textiles as they share stories and make human connections through the process of constructing this collaborative piece.
Participants may bring their own ephemera or use items provided by the gallery; they will find shared history and memories related to the objects and share their own connected histories and origin stories while working together.
Construction will continue throughout the month of October, with Sunday sewing days on October 6, 13, and 20 from 12:00pm-2:00pm, and an artists’ reception to follow.
