Join renowned Indonesian batik artists Agus Ismoyo and Nia Fliam of the Brahma Tirta Sari Studio from Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
In this one-day workshop, Agus Ismoyo and Nia Fliam will invite the participants to take a glimpse and share about their work and show the roots of their creative process as illustrated in several examples of their batik art and traditional Javanese batik. Participants will be invited to do some basic movement exercises in preparation for getting in touch with their sensitivity to batik activities. Participants can then explore this creative process through the media of hand batik. In this way, it is hoped that participants can open themselves to a sense of oneness and intimacy with nature, feel an inseparable unity with nature itself and then use it as the basis of their creative process.
Each participant for their first batik will be given the task of making dots as a method of focusing creative energy with the whole body. Each cloth will then be dyed with indigo and when it is dry it will be made into dots again. In addition, participants will be invited to make another simple batik outlined with indigo. These exercises are not focused on the product, but on the process of batik media and the state of sensitivity and use of creative energy in doing these exercises. This is done with the hope that participants can apply a balance of mind and sensitivity in the creative process which they might use in other creative activities.
Cost $150 includes $50 material fee (all proceeds go directly to Brahma Tirta Sari Studio)
