Welcome to the Portland TextileX Month New Traditions Festival!

As we think about New Traditions, we’re considering the questions that shape this contemporary moment and its broad implications.

In this moment of rapid transformation what traditions do we preserve and build upon and what do we rethink and rebuild anew?

How can we transform our textile practices, collections, materials, businesses, institutions, and educational systems to serve a more inclusive, equitable, sustainable, and connected purpose

What is the future we want to weave and how do we build it together?

Our continued goal for this year’s festival is to engage, share ideas, histories, knowledge, experiences, and practices across myriad cultures, viewpoints, and generations. We are excited to explore this topic with you and see what New Traditions we can weave together.

Help Support Future PTXM Programming

In just over 3 years, Portland TextileX Month (PTXM) has turned from an ambitious idea into an engaged community movement. This transformation highlights the power of our mission to foster collaboration, cross-pollination, cultural dialogue, and exchange among the Portland textile community and beyond.

This year we’ve organized the PTXM festival with over 40 events and directly sponsored over 20 programs including exhibits, workshops, artist talks, community projects, podcasts, and more—representing a diversity of textile interests and practices. This year’s PTXM New Traditions Festival has galvanized makers, businesses, teachers, students, institutions, and organizations to gather around shared interests and knowledge-sharing. PTXM would not have been possible without the dedication of paid administrative contributors, paid interns, and the receptiveness of the textile community.

We hope to continue building PTXM and TextileX website as sustainable resources that serve the textile community for years to come, and that’s where you come in.

If you feel a connection to the PTXM mission and what we can accomplish together, please consider directly supporting our future programming. As a direct contributor, your funds will go toward operational expenses such as exhibit space, seed funding for next year’s community projects, and paying our talented administrative contributors. We appreciate any contribution you can make and your continued support.
